2 Position Openings at FOSL

FOSL is currently seeking a new US-based member of our Board of Directors, as well as a new contract Visitor Program Coordinator to be based in San Lucas Tolimán. Whether as a volunteer or paid contributor, working with FOSL is a rewarding way to collaborate across cultures to make a difference.

BOARD MEMBER POSITION OVERVIEW

A FOSL board member must actively participate in the oversight of the organization. This includes preparing for and attending board meetings, being engaged at meetings, reading and evaluating all materials received in advance of meetings, reading meeting minutes, reviewing the performance and compensation of the Executive Director and the organization’s other officers and employees, reviewing financial documents, exercising independent judgment and asking questions to obtain information necessary to make informed decisions.

With some meaningful understanding of the current and residual effects of Colonialism in Central America and in particular Guatemalan Mayan history, a FOSL board member works collaboratively to develop, execute and evaluate the overall vision strategy and mission of Friends of San Lucas. The role requires a creative, articulate, flexible and experienced leader who will continue the pattern of sustainable growth and help develop new, untapped opportunities. A board member is expected to be an advisor to the Executive Director of FOSL and the Mission Directors in Guatemala (as appropriate). A board member provides input on the general direction of FOSL but does not engage in specific management decisions. A board member also has an advisory role to play in encouraging and facilitating leadership development of FOSL staff and engaging in cross-cultural relationships with Mission staff. A board member is encouraged to travel to Guatemala at least once a year.
