We are very pleased to announce the Friends of San Lucas Mankato Gala taking place Saturday, October 9th from 6:00-8:00pm at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center (Mankato Civic Center) in Mankato, In its first year without U.S. visitors, the San Lucas Mission continued to build houses and stoves, treat patients, teach students, feed the elderly and vulnerable, buy and sell coffee and touch the lives of over 20,000 people.

Join us to learn about their landmark accomplishments serving people experiencing poverty. Your attendance provides meaningful support for the Mission employees and the San Lucas community. We will have a dinner, a silent and live auction and discover what it has been like in San Lucas as the Mission has continued to serve the people with creativity, compassion and grace.

New this year will be a virtual conference from 10:00am – 3:00pm on Saturday which will offer short sessions on how to lead a group to travel to the Mission, the history of the Mission, the challenges and rewards of international development work and other topics. You can register for conference sessions here.

Out of an abundance of caution we are postponing our celebration of the School Sisters of Notre Dame and their role in the development of the Mission until next year. They are very excited about joining us then.

At the event, you will learn about the Mission’s remarkable work over the past two years. Any contributions you make to the Mission will be doubled up to $130,000! Auction items will be available online the week before the event and in-person that evening. To register (all ticket sales, donations and sponsorships will be doubled) click here.

As you all know, it has been a tough year all around. Covid is currently at its highest rates in Guatemala and vaccinations are proceeding slowly. The Mission has stayed strong throughout the pandemic with all the programs continuing to provide essential services to the people of San Lucas. Mission employees have all been vaccinated and, although a few employees were infected with Covid, no one got seriously ill. And through it all, the Mission continued to build houses and stoves, treat patients, teach students, feed the elderly and vulnerable, buy and sell coffee and touch the lives of over 20,000 people.

And we can’t let up in our support. As the people of San Lucas journey through the next several months, they are as vulnerable as ever. We need to continue our strong support of them and events like this help us to do just that.

So, consider a sponsorship for the event, attend the Gala and the conference, and show your commitment to this work that is soon to enter its 59th year. To register for the Gala, to provide a sponsorship, or to make a donation to the event, click here to pay by check or click here to pay by credit card. Remember, all your gifts will be doubled.

Please note that we request compliance with the following safety measures:

  • wear a mask except when actively eating or drinking
  • vaccination or negative covid test is required

We are looking forward to seeing you at this event!
