Announcing the First Ever Friends of San Lucas Visitor Photo Contest!
Term
The Friends of San Lucas Photo Contest begins October 28, 2019, and ends November 20, 2019, at 11:59 PM Central Standard Time. By submitting an entry via email, each contestant agrees to the rules of the contest and states that they are 18 years old or older.
Who may enter
This contest is open to amateur or professional photographers who are 18 years old or older. Contest participants must have taken part in a group or individual stay at the San Lucas Mission between 1968 and 2019. (Vintage photographs are welcome.) All submissions must be the original work of the contestant, taken during their trip to the San Lucas Mission. Winners must reside in the US. All submissions must be photos not previously published by Friends of San Lucas.
Additional Rules
The contestant certifies that they are the sole creator and copyright owner of the submitted photograph.
Digital photos should be submitted at the highest possible resolution. High-quality scans of non-digital photographs are also acceptable. Cropped photos are eligible for consideration. Minor adjustments, including the removal of sensor dust or scratches on scans of negatives, dodging and burning, sharpening, contrast, toning, slight color adjustment and conversion to grayscale are acceptable for all categories. The addition and subtraction of objects is not permitted. If the judges determine that a photographer has altered his or her photo, they reserve the right to disqualify it. HDR and stitched panoramas are not eligible for consideration.
Entries will be judged by the Friends of San Lucas Staff based on artistic creativity, originality, quality, and overall impact of the image. Friends of San Lucas will notify winners via the email address provided at the time of entry. Friends of San Lucas may disqualify anyone who fails to respond to the notification within five business days. Winners will be announced publicly in December 2019.
One First Place and one Second Place Winner will be selected. The First Place Winner will receive public recognition, one pound of Juan Ana coffee per month for a year, and a Friends of San Lucas mug and sweatshirt. The Second Place Winner will receive public recognition, one pound of Juan Ana coffee, a Friends of San Lucas mug, and a t-shirt.
Photos will be displayed on the Friends of San Lucas website, Facebook, and Instagram accounts. Select photos may be used in future print or digital promotional materials for Friends or San Lucas of the San Lucas Mission.
By submitting a photo for the contest, entrants are agreeing to grant the Friends of San Lucas the absolute and irrevocable right and permission to use, re-use, publish, and re-publish the photographs in displays, print materials, and electronic publications, and in conjunction with any copyrighted matter, in any and all media now or hereafter known for illustration, promotion, art, advertising and trade, news, informational and educational purposes and to copyright the same, under its original name or otherwise. The entrant thereby releases and discharges the Friends of San Lucas from any and all claims and demands arising out of or in connection with the use of the photos, including without limitation any and all claims for invasion of privacy. Any photograph reproduced will include a photographer credit as feasible. Friends of San Lucas will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses.
How to Enter
All entries must be submitted via email to Director of Communications Julie Knopp at julie.knopp@sanlucasmission.org as .jpeg or .jpg attached files. Entries must be submitted by November 20, 2019 at 11:59 pm CST. There is no limit to the number of entries a contestant may submit, but please submit no more than 5 entries in each email. Each entry should contain the following information:
- Title of photograph
- Name of photographer (first and last)
- Group name (if applicable), ex: St. John Neumann Catholic Church
- Date and location of photograph
- A short description of the photograph (1-5 sentences)
- Entrant’s contact information (mailing address, email address & telephone number)
- Optional: Social media handles for tagging (Instagram and Facebook)
