CHAPTER FOURTEEN:
Coatepeque, Quetzaltenango, Guatemala to Nahuala, Solola, Guatemala

A Glimpse of Mission History

The San Lucas Mission is known for its seven program areas: Healthcare, Education, Construction, Charity with Dignity, Coffee, Visitors, and the Women’s Center. But the Mission also operates beyond the typical scope of these programs to support the community when needed. Bolstered by a grant from the Wheaton Franciscan Ministry Fund, the Construction Program is currently partnering with Engineers Without Borders to improve access to clean water in the rural communities surrounding San Lucas. The result will be more reliable access to drinking water for the 20,000 people who live in the communities just outside of San Lucas.

Since the early days of the Mission, access to water has been a priority and as communities grow and old infrastructure wears out, the Mission has continued to expand and improve water delivery systems in the communities.

Below, you’ll see a short sideshow of some of the water work the Mission supported in partnership with Bruce Clemens and Agua del Pueblo.
