Juan Ana coffee is grown, processed, roasted, and packaged in San Lucas, Guatemala. This Direct Trade Model ensures that the largest financial benefit of selling coffee goes to the grower, not the processor.
The coffee program seeks to provide the highest rate of return for coffee growers, regardless of the current market prices. In turn, these growers provide the program with their highest quality coffee.
The growers we buy from grow their coffee under a full shade canopy at an ideal altitude (between 5,200 and 6,000 feet) in rich volcanic ash soil. The coffee harvest takes place between November and February.
During coffee harvest, entire families work together, picking coffee by hand, and on a good day, one person might pick as much as 100 pounds of coffee. Families then bring their best coffee to the Mission to sell. The coffee is immediately washed and processed and dried in the sun until it can be packaged and roasted for shipping to the United States.
