Week of October 16
The van accompanying the Walkers is outfitted with movies, slides, and displays presenting ideas on poverty, development, and depicting the daily life of the people in the mountainous rural village of San Lucas Toliman.
The driver of the van sees to all advance communications that are necessary while in route. Each town will be presented with a small remembrance of San Lucas; a hand woven basket, a piece of native cloth, and a small piece of local pottery.
Proceeds from this walk will go to development projects in San Lucas, especially those of secondary and adult education, housing programs and land development.
During the walk from Saint Paul to San Lucas, the walkers gifted each town they passed through with a remembrance of San Lucas, which included a hand woven basket, a piece of native cloth, and a small piece of local pottery.
ABOUT THE WALK
2022 marks the 50 year anniversary of a historic walk. Father Greg Schaffer, Ronal Motta, and Elias Jacinto trekked 3,087 miles from St. Paul, Minnesota to San Lucas Tolimán, Guatemala to increase awareness about and raise donations for the Mission’s life-changing work. You can sustain their legacy by making a gift that provides healthcare, education, housing and other essential services to the people of San Lucas.
