Something You Might Not Know About the Mission…

In Guatemala, government support for people with disabilities is severely limited, leaving many without the financial assistance they need to make ends meet.

That’s why the Mission Charity Program provides monthly financial stipends to the elderly and people with disabilities — and it’s almost entirely funded by individual donors like you. This week only, your donation to the Charity Program will be doubled!

Francisco is one of the individuals who relies on the generosity of donors like you to cover basic expenses. Read the interview below to learn about how your donations are impacting his life.

Question: Tell us a little about yourself.

Francisco: From a very young age, I worked on a plantation doing agricultural work. However, 37 years ago I suffered an accident while collecting coconuts, a task that my boss had assigned to me. I was up in a tree when I lost my balance and fell. Since then, I have been unable to move my legs and depend on a wheelchair to get around.

Question: How did you come to receive a monthly financial stipend from the Mission?

Francisco: Seven years ago, the Charity Program Director came to my house to learn about my situation. Soon, she informed me that I would be part of the monthly financial aid project. I was excited, since this help would allow me to buy some basic supplies that my wife and I need, like sugar and beans.

Question: How has the Mission’s financial assistance impacted your life?

Francisco: Unfortunately, due to my situation, I cannot work a job that allows me to earn enough money to survive. However, thanks to this financial help, my wife and I are able to purchase essential items that help us get by, day by day.

Question: Anything else you would like to share?

Francisco: First, I thank God. He must be first in everything. I wholeheartedly thank God for giving strength to the donors since, without you, this help would not be possible. We are deeply grateful to you. May God bless you.
