Visitors work closely with Friends of San Lucas staff to shape a meaningful itinerary tailored to their group. Experiences may include hands-on service projects, conversations with local community members, and opportunities to learn directly about Maya culture, Guatemalan history, and the Mission’s ongoing community development work.

Visit San Lucas with a Medical Group

Medical groups travel to the San Lucas Mission to lend their expertise in support of the Mission’s locally led Healthcare Program. By working alongside Guatemalan medical professionals, visiting clinicians help expand access to care—especially in rural communities where more support is often needed. In addition to offering their skills, medical groups engage in meaningful cross-cultural exchange, gaining insight into the Mission’s clinic, the challenges of rural healthcare delivery, and the broader landscape of healthcare in Guatemala. Become a Long-Term Volunteer

Long-Term Volunteers (LTVs) commit to at least three months in San Lucas, accompanying visiting groups and supporting their experience through interpretation, logistics, and cultural exchange. LTVs help arrange itineraries, ensure safety protocols are followed, and work alongside Mission staff and Guatemalan community members.

More than just service, the LTV experience is rooted in learning. LTVs build relationships, take part in daily life, and gain a deeper understanding of Maya culture, Guatemalan history, and the Mission’s community development work.
