Interview with a Student at the Mission School

Interview by Faith Pitsikoulis

October 11th was the last day of school in San Lucas, and we sat down with a fourth grade student named David to discuss his favorite aspects of learning and his hopes for the future. Read on to learn more about David and his experience at the Mission School!

Question: What do you love most about going to school?

David: All of the different places in the school. The garden is the place I like the most, because I can see all of the plants. I can also hear all types of animals when I walk around.

Question: How do you feel when you learn something new?

David: I feel good, because I am learning more things and understanding more ideas. This week, I learned division and it was easy!

Question: If you could make your own holiday so you didn’t have to go to school, what would you call it?

David: I would make a Day of Kindness. People would be kind and not expect anything in return. There would be food for every house in town that doesn’t have enough, and I would give each home 100 or 150 Quetzales ($12 or $20 USD).

Question: If you could make it start raining any type of candy, what would it be?

David: I want it to rain gummies, so they won’t hurt my head when they fall from the sky. They are sweet and also safe.

Question: If you could paint the school any color you wanted, what color would you choose?

David: I want to paint all of the school orange!

Question: What is your favorite subject?

David: Math is my favorite subject, because there are exercises to solve. The different exercises make me think in different ways. I also like natural science, which is learning about the value of plants and animals.

Question: What do you like most about your teachers?

David: I like that they are kind and funny. They make me laugh sometimes and are very good at teaching me new things.

Question: What do you hope to do in the future?

David: I am excited to continue to study. I am sad this is the last week of school for the year. I would keep studying all year if it was possible. When I grow up, I want to be an architect, because I like learning about physics. I think it’s interesting and I enjoy building things. I also want to visit Chile and eat new food.
